Court Jester
The medieval farces, songs and hatreds recited by the jesters and troubadours attracted servants and vassals to the courtyards of the castles. At the same time they also aroused keen interest in the ladies, who listened to them with great attention from behind the windows by the artistic leaded glass, while they waited for the arrival of the knight of their dreams. Precisely these recitations of a Giullaro character were at the origin of the joker masks which, on occasion, were used by the court jester to hide his grotesque face and his astute spirit.
